Home learning for Friday 17th April 2026
It has been a great week back after the Easter break. We have enjoyed hearing the children talk about their time off and have used some of this in our recount writing.
We are excited about our trip to Fort Nelson next Thursday! Thank you to all of the parents who kindly volunteered to help.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We are in desperate need of cardboard toilet roll inserts! Please can you send in any empty toilet rolls as we have an exciting modelling session coming up and we need 90 cardboard rolls for this! Empty kitchen rolls are also very welcome, thank you.
Here are this week's activities:
Reading
Please continue to read every day. This might be your reading book from school or a book from home. Don't forget, you can also log on to bug club phonics.

Spellings
This week we have been spelling words where the letter a makes an 'o' sound. Here are the words for you to practise this week...
want, watch, wander, squash, quantity, quality
Don't forget that there are lots of ways to practise your spellings in a practical way rather than just writing them with paper and pencil!!!
Maths
This week we have been understanding that subtraction is the inverse of addition. We have explored the relationship between the number sentences. For example: If I know that 5 + 4 = 9 then I also know that 9 - 4 = 5.
Have a go at writing the inverse to the following number sentences:
3 + 5 = 8 so I know 8 - 5 = 3
7 + 3 = 10
9 + 6 = 15
10 - 6 = 4
12 - 3 = 9
20 - 7 = 13
This week's task
This week we have been learning about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. This week's task is to find out extra facts about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole.
Tell an adult at home what you have already learnt at school this week. Then try looking at these websites that will help you find out even more about them:
