17th January 2025
The children have been working really hard this week and we have been very impressed with their 'new year' attitude!
As you probably know by now, we have started to learn about Chinese New Year, which will be resulting in a celebration on Wednesday 29th January. On this day children may wear red clothes to school instead of their uniform.
If you would like to immerse them in their learning even further, then there are lots of local, public celebrations you can take part in. There is a website here where you can find the information about what is happening in Southampton...
As always, please email us if you have any questions! (year2@whiteleyapps.com)
Reading
Please continue to read every day. This might be your reading book from school or a book from home. Don't forget, you can also log on to bug club phonics.

Spelling
In phonics this week we have been looking at some more homophones (words that sound the same but can be spelt in different ways.)
The words we have looked at are
to
too
two
You should find them easy to spell but can you remember what each one means? Write a sentence with each word in to show you understand.
Maths
This week in maths we have been learning about addition.
You might like to watch this video to see the methods we have learnt in school so that you can practise at home.
You could then practise your skills with one of these games...

This week's task
We have started to find about about the Lunar New Year. Why not try making one or more of the following recipes to make your own Chinese banquet. (We have tried to choose recipes which cater for differing dietary requirements but please do adjust them where necessary).
