Home learning for 11th September 2026
(Please click on READ MORE to view the whole message.)
We hope you have enjoyed your first week in Year 2. We have been really impressed with how well the children have settled into the classrooms each morning and how hard they are trying with their learning. Well done!
There are just a couple of messages this week...
If you have not yet contacted us by email, please send us a message if you have any questions (year2@whiteleyapps.com)
Also, there are still some children that have not brought their PE kits into school. We have started PE lessons now so please bring them in ASAP!
Here are your home learning activities to do at home this week...
Reading
Please read every day. This might be your reading book from school or a book from home. Don't forget, you can also log on to bug club phonics. If you have forgotten the information you need to log on to bug club, please email your teacher at year2@whiteleyapps.com.

Soon we will be sending home the new reading challenge cards for this year. We will follow the same bronze, silver, gold, super star format as last year, but the prizes will be shooting star badges instead of bookworms. Every time you hear your child read aloud at home please sign the card and once it is complete, send it into class for your badge and we will give you the next card!
Spelling
Here is the list of common exception words (words that are hard to sound out) for both Year 1 and Year 2. This week, make sure you remember how to spell the Year 1 words. Pick some of the ones you found difficult to remember last year. You may like to make them out of magnetic letters, write them in chalks/felt pens, make them out of playdough, write them within sentences in context, make the words out of glue and glitter or collage….be creative and have fun!
Over the next few weeks we will then start asking you to practise the Year 2 words. There will be a few spellings from the list each week to practise.

In RE we have been learning about Harvest and saying thank you! We thought of kind things that people have done for us that we might say thank you for. At home we’d like the children to carry out their own act of kindness. There are lots of ideas for things you could do on the picture below. Do as many as you can!!!
Don’t forget to email us and tell us about them if you want to! (year2@whiteleyapps.com)
